Her Creation Review: Jungin Lee

Ottchil, a traditional Korean lacquerware technique, is not only beautiful but captures the spirit of Korea. I felt the need to preserve the technique and share its beauty with the world and began crafting since university. However, the materials are difficult to acquire in the U.S. and because of the laborious steps required, I was hesitant to get back into crafting since I moved to the U.S. ten years ago. Participating in Simple Steps’ Her Creations: Handmade Arts & Crafts Fair became a foundation for a fresh start on my artwork. I remembered what it was like to immerse myself in my work and felt like I traveled back in time, back in the school studio. The finished works were made by me in entirety as an artist, not as a mom or wife. This achievement boosted my self-esteem tremendously. I am proud to introduce ottchil far away from its origin and spread its beauty to anyone who can appreciate natural elegance.
